Second Futures Academy programme 50% bigger

With 150 students from year 12 taking part and support from 50 market firms, the 2024 Academy is bigger and better.

28th June 2024: The London Market Group is pleased to announce the return of the Futures Academy on Monday 1st July for two weeks – with a range of activities taking place culminating in a Careers Festival in the Lloyd’s Building on 12th July.

Sean McGovern, CEO of AXA XL UK and Chair of the London Market Group, said: “The Academy was a great success in 2023, and eight alumni will start work in the market this autumn – students who, until they took part, had not heard of specialty insurance or the London Market. We were massively oversubscribed in our first year, so we have grown the programme significantly to meet the student demand and give more young people a chance to learn about the careers our market can offer”.

Caroline Wagstaff, CEO of the London Market Group, said: “The insurance market needs more young people. Our London Matters data released earlier this year shows that there as many people over 50 in the market as under 30. We can change that data point with initiatives like the Futures Academy. It is a great way to promote specialty insurance as a destination career to young people, and it also presents market firms with students from the diverse range of backgrounds that many want to tap into but find hard to access”.

In the first week of the Academy Lloyd’s, WTW, Howden, Liberty Specialty Markets and Marsh have all kindly offered to host the students, who will participate in collective activities designed to increase their knowledge and awareness of the industry. supported by around 150 volunteers from the market. The students will then each spend their second week in an insurance business.
