The LMG

Overview

The London Market is the largest global hub for commercial and specialty risk, employing over 48,000, earning more than $120 bn in premium each year.

The LMG is a market-wide body, bringing together the specialist commercial (re)insurance broking and underwriting communities in London. It is supported by the International Underwriting Association of London (IUA), Lloyd’s of London, the Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA) and the London & International Insurance Brokers’ Association (LIIBA).

The LMG is the only forum that convenes and represents all market participants, facilitating debate, articulating key messages and taking action on the topics where a single voice or campaign is most effective. Its purpose is to:

  • Promote London’s unique offer.
  • Help build a platform for future growth and success.
  • Protect and enhance its reputation.

Promoting London’s unique offer

  • Government – work with Westminster and Whitehall so that they understand the importance of the London Market to the UK economy, ensure it can operate in an optimal manner and can promote it accordingly.
  • Future talent (new or returning) – campaigns to create speciality insurance as a destination career, explain its societal value, make the London Market visible to those looking for jobs, promote the opportunities and roles available.
  • Customers (of all types) – create a shop window that demonstrates that wealth of experience and expertise that sits within London and driving the right traffic to it.

A platform for future success

  • Being the forum where the Future at Lloyd’s team can bring problems that need cross market solutions and stakeholders can raise concerns over proposed work so that London can be more efficient.
  • Facilitate debate around how to maintain London’s unique and valuable ecosystem in a hybrid working world.
  • Working with government to create growth opportunities both at home and abroad and remove barriers to trade.

The LMG Board also measure the performance of the London Market through regular data gathering and shares that with the market and various stakeholders to underpin its campaigns. The latest data is available here (Fact Base 2022) .
